“She Dried Up” – A Funny Story<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The occupants of a Pullman sleeper<\/strong> were diligently trying<\/strong><\/em> to get some rest, but could not. There was a very thirsty woman in one of the berths<\/strong> who kept the whole car awake by her perpetual song<\/strong><\/em> of\u2014\u201cOh, I am so dry. I am so dry. My, but I am dry. Dear me, what shall I do? I am so dry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHello, Porter!\u201d at last sang out a gentleman across the way, \u201cFor Heaven\u2019s sake<\/strong><\/em> give\u00a0that woman some ice water, and plenty of it. I want to get some sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Porter brought a glass of water. He brought a second glass. She drank them both\u2014and took up her song afresh<\/strong><\/em>\u2014<\/p>\n

\u201cMy, but I was dry. I was so dry. I never was so dry in all my life. Dear me, but I was dry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, Great Scott<\/strong><\/em>, woman,\u201d sang out the man across the way, \u201cdry up<\/strong><\/em>, and let me sleep!\u201d<\/p>\n
