Добрый день, давайте познакомимся с идиомой “play the field“.
“play the field” можно приблизительно перевести как “играть на все поле”, то есть, покрывать своей деятельностью (в данном случае в основном интимной) много людей, а не фиксироваться на одном постоянном партнере.
“play the field” means: to date many people romantically and sexually, to have a lot of intimate partners, to have many romantic or sexual relationships.
Let us look at some examples of using the idiom “to play the field“:
1. I don’t understand when you managed to settle down and stop playing the field.
2. I know her too much, so I suppose she prefers playing the field to marrying someone.
3. No wonder he wants to play the field – he is so young!
4. I think at your age it is already high time to quit playing the field and start a family.
